This book pays tribute to the history of a great US Navy ship, USS Shangri-La includeing sea stories from the veterans and biographical profiles bring this ship's history to life. Named for an imaginary land because of the wry humor of Franklin D. Roosevelt, she participated in the final push to victory over Japan, carried the flag to many ports during the Cold War, and saw final action off the coast of Vietnam. The historical narrative of this book is particularly well written, and many action photos are a great plus. The final pages include mini-bio's and then-and-now photos of many members of the ship's reunion association.
