THE BATTLESHIPS: Volume 1 of The German Navy At War, 1935-1945, by Siegfried Breyer & Gerhard Koop -- German Navy Ships.
This is possibly the finest book ever published about the larger warships of the German Navy of the Third Reich. This is a narrative and pictorial history of the "big ships": Pocket Battleships, Cruisers, and an Aircraft Carrier. In the early 1930's, German ship builders were kept busy creating a powerful surface fleet of handsomely designed warships. This 188-page hard cover book is laid out with "landscape" oriented pages which permit many great photos of these long vessels. The ships are reported from early construction phases to employment in the war to the final fate each encountered. The narrative and tables of facts add much important information about each ship. Hundreds of photos and pictures, mostly b/w. Fortunately for the world, Hitler's blunders and the events of the war prevented the German navy from ever utilizind this powerful fleet in an effective manner.
