You'll get to see the P-40 Warhawk and the tough missions it flew in the deserts of North Africa and its battles against Japanese fighters in China. See why the P-51 Mustang with its perfect blend of power and maneuverability made it the best fighter of the war. With the B-17 Flying Fortress, you'll witness the heavy losses of the early days of the bombing campaign in Europe. The watch as the tide turns with the help of escorting fighters like the P-38 Lightning, P-47 Thunderbolt and eventually the P-51 Mustang. When it became obvious that longer ranged bombers were needed to carry the war to the enemy, the B-24 Liberator filled that role. Soon the B-24s were over shadowed by the massive B-29 Superfortress that, with its long range and larger bomb capacity, could pound the Japanese homeland.

DISC 1

P-40 Warhawk
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was one of the greatest workhorses of World War II. While it proved to be less agile than some enemy fighters, it's sturdiness more than made up for it's faults. it was the plane of choice for British and American pilots in North Africa and Soviet fliers in the east. From 1940-1942 more P-40s were built than all other fighter types combined.

P-51 Mustang
The peak of piston engine fighter development during World War II was attained in the North American P-51 Mustang. The Mustang led the way in American fighter philosophy of taking the war to the enemy and beating them on their home turf.

B-24 Liberator
More consolidated B-24 Liberators were built during World War II than any other aircraft. While not as well-loved as the B-17, the B-24 was a more modern design which allowed it to attack targets that could be hit by no other bomber until the advent of the B-29.

DISC 2

B-17 Flying Fortress
Boeing's B-17 Flying Fortress evokes memories of courageous air crews who day after day, despite horrific losses, continued to carry out bold daylight bombing raids for three grueling years. From 1942-1945, bombing precision targets and whittling away the German Luftwaffe, the B-17 was involved in some of the largest and bloodiest air battles in history.

P-38 Lightning
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was one of the most distinctive and technologically advanced aircraft of World War II. The versatile P-38 was loved by its pilots and feared by the enemy. The Germans dreaded it so much that they began calling it the "Fork-Tailed Devil."

P-47 Thunderbolt
With its large fuselage and enormous engine the P-47 Thunderbolt dwarfed all other single engine fighters of the day. its multitude of machine guns made it one of the most feared ground attack planes of the war. While it looked too big and cumbersome to be a good fight plane the pilots that flew them grew to love it for it size, strength, durability and fire power.

B-29 Superfortress
By far the most advanced aircraft of World War II, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, was truly a war winner. The B-29's extreme range and large bomb carrying capacity made it the perfect weapon to strike far away Japan. On one deadly raid after another the Superfortress banged away at the Japanese, eventually bringing ultimate victory with the dropping of the atomic bomb.
