DESTROYER ESCORTS In Action. Over 565 Destroyer Escorts and Fast Attack Transports were built. Named to honor US Navy heroes. Coverage of the DEs, DERs & APDs into the 1990s.

Click to EnlargeDestroyer Escorts were designed and built early during WWII to solve a problem: the WWI-era destroyers lent to the British for anti-submarine warfare were too slow and required too much maintenance. The solution was the Evarts Class Destroyer Escort, which was followed in turn during the war by the Buckley Class, the Cannon Class, the Edsall Class, the Rudderow Class, and the John C. Butler Class. Each is portrayed in action photographs, with drawings and specifications. Includes information and photos about DE's converted to APD's (High Speed Transports) and DER's (Radar Picket Destroyers). Destroyer Escorts in Action (SC).
