It begins with an overview of the Sudan & the events that preceded the rise of the Mahdi and the subsequent revolt. It follows the Egyptian Army sent to subdue the Mahdi under Cols Hicks Pasha and its eventual destruction by the Dervish army. It covers the Gordon mission to the Sudan, the siege of Khartoum, and its fall. The fighting around Suakin on the Red Sea coast incl the hard fought battles of El-Teb and Tamaii. Then the despatch of the Gordon relief force, the battles of Jakdul Wells, Abu Klea, Metemmeh, Kirbekan and more. It also details the actions after the fall of the Sudan including those around Suakin & the battle of Tofrek. 1996 limited edition r/p of l889 ed, 2 volumes in one.
